Surgery Today

Considering the circumstances, best we could expect . . .

Surgery was scheduled  at a seemingly ideal time, since Mom was starting to feel significantly more pressure, pain, and nausea this weekend than she had previously. She went into surgery at 2pm today and the surgeons began closing about 3 1/2 hrs. later - sooner than expected.

Surgery went well. Doctors removed  mom's right kidney, a softball sized tumor that was larger than the kidney itself, and a number of lymph nodes to halt any further cancer spread.  The tumor, though it was larger that the 4 inches it measured a few weeks ago,was only attached to the kidney, which is good news.  Prognosis would have been worse if the tumor had attached itself to a blood vessel or any other nearby organs.

She'll be heading into recovery soon, but will likely not be lucid until late tomorrow.  Hopefully, the hospital can give her something to ease her nausea from the anesthesia this time.

Here's to hoping for a speedy recovery.
