Monday Sort of News

Just last night things looked very promising. Mom was in good spirits.  She finally passed all her checklist of tests late last night and we were expecting to take her home today.

Last night, however, she started exhibiting an number of symptoms - nausea, gas, chills, and an increased white and red blood cell count - indications that she likely has an infection from the surgery or a blockage in the bowel (which apparently gets moved around during surgery and needs time to resettle and function again afterwards).  If the problem is caused by an infection it can be treated with medication; a bowel obstruction will necessitate more surgery.

Needless to say, today will be an in-patient day filled with more tests to see where the problem lies.  Doctors have said she will probably be here another two days if not longer.  This has really dampened her mood, perhaps more so than all the symptoms she's been experiencing which I'm sure are awful enough.
