Not much on which to update everyone today.
Mom has made incremental progress over the past couple of days. She has been able to maneuver on the couch on her own and get around, when necessary, without assistance. She has been going on assisted, short walks down the street and back, she's been eating more, and, for whatever reason, her persistent cough has disappeared. Also, despite her protests, we've even gotten her to take a minimal amount of her pain medication. Though subtle, these advancements are marked progress.
Mom's mood vacillates from moment to moment. Positive and hopeful one minute and frustrated and depressed the next. Because she's been spending too much time in the later part of that scale, Dad arranged to have a very close family friend take care of her Friday while he was at work. Initially resistant to the idea of seeing or talking to anyone outside her immediate family, Mom seemed to enjoy her day and is hopefully opening up to the idea of "letting others in." Perhaps, more such visits in the near future will continue to keep her upbeat and positive in a way that family hasn't been able to.
