Day 2 Post Surgery

Mom is continuing her healing.  Much less nausea than she expected, which is great.  As far as pain, her epidural is helping some, but she is still in a great deal of pain from the waist up and is on low doses of morphine.  After some complaints from Mom last night, we had the nurses increase the dosage and  talk to her about administering self doses when she anticipates pain and not after she begins experiencing it.  This has helped.

Nurses are also getting her to move around a little - squats and brief walks around the hospital floor to get her digestive tract back in action.  She's not happy about the squats (seriously, who would be really).  She was,  however, happy to get down some Jello and toast this morning.

At the moment, Mom is really not up to visitors.  (She even told my dad not to come today.)  Too much pain, too many tubes/cords/lines/wires etc, and a severe lack of sound sleep (a staple of good hospital care).  She also can't reach the phone (except when the cleaning lady comes. :) ).

What Mom seems to need most right now is for everyone to keep her in their thoughts and prayers and help her to be open to letting others help her.  If you want to "touch base,"  I'm sure she would appreciate some cards or flowers to brighten her room and remind her that she's cared for.  I promise I'll let you know when she's up for anything more.

I'll add her private line and her room number to the hospital info on the right if anyone wants to send her anything.  Again, just please don't mention the blog.
